これまでアメリカ・イギリス・オーストラリアの英語に触れてきた私ですが、


ニュージーランドの英語はどうかというと、そんなに際立った訛りはありません。


ただ、



とにかく早口！




なんです・・・



ある分析によると、ニュージーランド人は１分に１４０語くらいは話せるみたいで



それはニューヨーカーよりも早いとか。



そして単語もちょっとおもしろい。



たとえばサンダルはSandal　ではなく、



Jandal






しかもこれは英語には関係ないけど、ちょっとでも天気がいいと、





裸足で街をうろうろ




レストランにも裸足で来店




そして




そのことを誰も気にしない





のです。




痛くないのかしら。




話を本題に戻しますが、とにかく早口。



英語って文中で大事でない語彙は弱く発音されるので、早口で言われると余計に聞き取りにくいですよね。



でも、リスニング力をあげたい！！



という方にひとつアドバイス。



みなさん、リスニング中は一語一句聞き取ろうとしていませんか？



たとえば、


"How fast is your car?"


というフレーズ。


先日ある映画を見ていて出てきたフレーズなのですが、


みなさん、この文章の中でどの単語が一番強く発音されると思いますか？


話の前後によって違ってきますが、この映画の中では、速さが重要だったので、



"fast" が最も強く発音されていました。


そして私も聞いていて最初あれ？と思ったのですが、


最初の一語、How　はほとんど発音されていないと言っていいほど聞こえなかったのです。


つまり、"how FAST is your car?" という感じ。




このハウも、「ハ」ぐらいにしか聞こえません。


じゃぁどうやって聞き取ればいいの？


と思うかもしれませんが、



実は、




聞かなくていいんです。



「この一文を聞いたときに、fast と　car　しか聞き取れなかったわ！


でもそういえば文脈を考えたら最初にハウって聞こえたような気がする」



くらいの認識でおおよその意味が十分理解できるはずです。



ですから、一語一句すべて聞き取ろうとするのではなく、大まかな部分だけ聞き取れたらそこからある程度予測することが、




「聞くためには聞かない」



　　というテクニックの一つだと思うんです。


ちなみに　"How fast is your car? " の　is と　your　はつながって発音されます。


日本語では　ハゥ　ファースト　イズ　ユア　カー？　なんて書いてありそうですが、

実際は、音の区切りは４つ。

how/ fast/ isyour/ car となり、


しかも　how　は強調されませんから、


音の区切りは３区切りしかないようにしか聞こえないのです。



さて、そうは言われても実際に聞いてみないと比較できない！という方に動画を載せようと思ったのですが、

を借りてみてください！

まずは日本語字幕つきで英語で聞いて、ストーリーが分かったら英語字幕にして英語で聞いてみましょう！

Oh god. It's been too long since I wrote the last blog!!!

One thing I have to say about this two months is that I really had a wonderful time studying TESOL with crazy cool classmates and our great teachers. It was only 5 weeks but very precious 5 weeks in my life I dare say.

And the trip with friends!! That was awesome. Crazy but fun. It reminded me of my college life in London. Everyday was party really. I mean, fun. Of course I had to write lots of essays up to 3,000 words, but having a certain level of stress can give energy and excitement in life and I really like it.

And I got the result by the way! Some 4's! I am very happy with my result.
And now I go observe IELTS class everyday where teen agers study English. Some of them are just not participating, some of them are keen on learning, and others are just staring at the windows which is very interesting to observe. Not all students can be enthusiastic about learning. Therefore teachers are challenged, you know? :p

Actually, I myself am sitting on IELTS this Saturday and I am not.. stuyding. lol I really have to. I've done some listening and reading, but haven't done reading and speaking practice..

Also on Sunday I am moving! To a house closer to my internship. It can reduce 85 dollars of living cost excluding food per week, and 60 dollars of bus ticket per month which is quite helpful for me to live with no income at this moment.. but of course anxious about my future...

Anyways, it's been good!! Living with lovely host family, having met crazy friends, people at internship... nice nice!

Time exactly is money! I'm losing money everyday cuz I have no income!!!!


Anyways, TESOL is good. I feel I am studying 'professional' thing.

My home stay is good. I live near St.Heiler's Bay. It's amazingly beautiful.



It's week 3. And in two weeks I will be finishing TESOL.. ;(


What's next? Who knows!


I've given my CV to the internship coordinator, and now I am waiting for a respond from the company...

It is such a interesting news that Bridget Jones's Diary III will be produced in few years!!!
It is said that Renee will play Bridget again, though Colin Firth and Hugh Grant have not confirm to play in the coming Bridget Jones III again.

The biggest reason why I like this movie is that it was shooted in the heart of London.
I even visited the flat where Bridet lived, which is near the London Bridge Station!!!
I think that every London lovers and Londoners love this film very much.

I've been a big fan of Hugh Jackman for about 8 years since I saw the musical 'OKLAMOHA!.'

Some people may know him in X-MAN, but actually, he started his career on stage.
And this musical was his big turning point.
